I visited Thailand in 2007 for two weeks and was fascinated. At that time, I only recognized what a strangely different place it was from the USA. Above all, I liked who I was in Thailand; how I found myself acting, how I found myself feeling about myself and the people around me. I returned in 2009, living in Chiang Mai for a year. There I met a Thai woman who I married a year later. We moved to Bangkok in 2010 and have lived there since then. The books I've written have mostly been my attempts to explain to myself what I've seen going on around me in Thailand. Unlike many who write about Thailand, I do not think it is a place that works for everyone. In my books I've tried, above all, to present a balanced view of Thailand. Often I've concluded that most of the positives of Thailand come with some drawbacks. For me the positives outweigh the negatives. I've found Thailand a satisfying place to live. Prior to coming to Thailand, I graduated from Stanford University with degrees in both English Literature and Economics. I taught creative writing at the high school level for five years. I enjoy writing. I hope you enjoy what I have written.
