Alba Donati lives in Lucignana in the province of Lucca. He made his debut in Poesia, in 1993, in the Milo De Angelis column “I poeti di trent’anni ”. He worked for Rai 3 and Rai Radio Tre and for a long time kept poetry columns in various newspapers. He has published: "La Repubblica contadina" (City Lights, 1997, Mondello First Work Award and Sibilla Aleramo Award); "Not in my name" (Marietti, 2004, Diego Valeri Prize, Carducci Prize, Pasolini Prize, Cassola Prize); "Idillio con cagnolino” (Fazi, 2013, Lerici-Pea Prize, Dessì Prize, Ceppo Prize). His poems have been translated by Northwestern University of Chicago's Triquarterly Review and the "Song for the Destruction of Beslan" poem contained in the last book was translated by the Department of French and Italian, University of Arizona. The song for the destruction of Beslan was also set to music by the Regional Orchestra of Tuscany and performed at the Verdi Theater in Florence in 2009. He translated with Fausta Garavini the poems of Michel Houellebecq "Configurations of the last shore" (Bompiani, 2015). He edited "Poets and writers against the death penalty" (Le Lettere, 2001) and, together with Paolo Fabrizio Iacuzzi, The "Dictionary of freedom" with writings by Todorov, Savater, Cordelli, Pamuk, Yeoshua, Bauman, T.B. Jelloun and others (Passigli Editori, 2002). He is president of the Literary Scientific Cabinet "G.P: Vieusseux". [1] In May 2018 the collection of his poems was released: “Tu paesaggio dell’infanzia- tutte le poesie 1997-2018 (La nave di Teseo). With which he won the "Gradiva" International Prize awarded by the State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 2020 he leaves Florence to devote himself to a new project. A library / cottage with a garden opens in Lucignana, a village inhabited by 170 people. The place immediately became a literary pilgrimage destination and the bookshop was included in the 20 most fascinating bookstores. “Diary of a Tuscany bookshop ”, her first work in prose, tells about this change of life. The book released in Italy with Einaudi is about to be translated in 10 countries.
