Dr. Alex Brylske is a self-described “story-teller for the ocean.” Over his 40-year career he has written hundreds of articles, curricula, books, and has been a major influence on both marine and diver education. Combining four decades of experience as a dive professional with more than two decades as a marine biologist, he has forged a highly diverse career serving both the scuba industry and marine conservation community. During his tenure as Professor of Marine Science and Technology at the College of the Florida Keys he conceived and taught numerous field-based courses on coral reef ecology, conservation, management, restoration, and assessment while serving as the institution’s Diving Safety Officer. In addition to his role with Reef Smart Guides as Director of Education, Alex is the founding director of Ocean Education International, a consulting company specializing in marine environmental education and sustainable tourism. His accomplishments have been recognized by numerous awards including NOAA’s Walter B. Jones Memorial Excellence Award for Coastal and Ocean Resource Management and DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year, one of the diving community's most prestigious awards.
