Alexander Moreira-Almeida, MD, PhD is an international leader in Spirituality and Mental Health, as well as in the study of Spiritual Experiences. More than 20 years of experience in clinical psychiatry, psychotherapy and scientific research, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Founder and Director of the Research Center in Spirituality and Health (NUPES) at Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) School of Medicine, Brazil. Former chair of the Section on Religion, Spirituality and Psychiatry of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) (2014-2020) when lead the approval of the WPA Position Statement on Spirituality and Religion in Psychiatry. Chair of the Section on Spirituality of the Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL). Founding chair of the section on spirituality of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (2014-21).
