Alyssa Bermudez (she/her) is a New Yorker from Manhattan who now calls Hobart, Tasmania home. She studied illustration and animation at the Fashion Institute of Technology. As an artistic director, she creates colorful fashion and textile designs. She’s also an author, illustrator, and art teacher, with her work appearing in picture books, fabrics, and even on stage. You’ll find her illustrations in books like the Lucia the Luchadora series, and she’s often sketching live at weddings and events. Alyssa released her middle-grade graphic novel Big Apple Diaries, a memoir about growing up in New York City before and after 9/11, which is now part of the 9/11 Memorial Museum's permanent collection. She loves to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in her work, using watercolor, ink, and digital techniques to bring her stories to life. When she’s not making art, Alyssa enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
