A descendant of one of the oldest families in France, Amaury de Riencourt was born in Orléans in 1918 and educated in France, Switzerland and Algiers. He served in the French Navy during the Second World War, after which he wrote articles and conducted exclusive interviews with prominent world figures for publications including the New York Times Magazine and news agencies such as the North American Newspaper Alliance. He is the author of several books ranging from the ancient civilisations of India and China to the founding and evolution of the United States of America. He has also published his autobiography, and a global study of woman’s status throughout history, the latter inspired by Mia d’Acquarone, whom he married in 1962. Amaury de Riencourt died in 2005 and is succeeded by their son Guy.
