Andreas W. Daum

Andreas Daum is a professor of history at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo and a recipient of the Humboldt Research Prize. He has published books on Alexander von Humboldt and popular science; John F. Kennedy, Berlin, the Cold War; and émigrés from Nazi Germany. Born in Germany, he has lived in the United States for many years and contributes to news outlets in both countries. He loves music (from Bach to Wilco), hiking, and traveling with his wife and their two sons. His research has been supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Smithsonian Institution, and the American Philosophical Society. In 2024, he received the Meyerson Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching.
