Ariane Cap

Ariane Cap is a bassist, passionate educator, self-published bestselling author, eclectic performer (electric bassist), a busy blogger and habit coach. She is a prolific and eclectic educator with a large online following. The founder and creator of Step Up Music Vallejo - a community music school - Ariane has taught droves of piano players and bassists as well as improvisers of a variety of instruments of all ages. Ariane facilitated harmony and ear training classes to composers at Academy of Art University and co-developed online classes for AAU. She taught at the Berkeley Jazz Workshop, the Golden Gate Bass Camp, was 10 years artist-in-residence teacher at the Wyoming Rock Camp Experience in Jackson Hole, taught at the California Jazz Conservatory’s Women’s and Girl’s Jazz and Blues Camps for 10+ years, co-taught masterclasses with Paul Hanson at the University of the Redlands, Colorado State, Montana State University and others. In 2019 she was a featured performer at the London Bass and Guitar Show and in 2020 she is teaching at Gerald Veasley’s Bass Boot Camp. Ariane runs popular seminars at Scott's Bass Lessons.com, the web’s largest music education website. She is a TrueFire educator and her regular column on notreble.com called “Talking Technique” enjoys huge popularity. In 2019 Ariane was one of four winners of an online Bass Player Magazine poll and was featured on the July 2019 cover of the magazine, dubbed “The Education Guru”. Ariane self-published her first book “Music Theory for the Bass Player” in 2015 which became an Amazon bestseller. Building on the success of the book she created her own online teaching platform and courses. Her online courses are highly interactive, boast a high completion rate and enjoy a loyal following and community feel. Ariane is a Tiny Habits™ Coach as well as an NLP Trainer with a keen interest in practicing habits and performance enhancement. Highlights of her performance activities include recording with GRAMMY winning producer Keith Olsen, touring with the celtic rock band Tempest, the kindie-rockers “The Sippy Cups”, Generation Esmeralda, and many others. Ariane co-leads the acclaimed duo “OoN - The bassoon-bass duo of Paul Hanson and Ariane Cap”. She recently toured Brazil with Stuart Hamm as a bass duo.
