Arthur C. Nielsen

Arthur Nielsen, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and couple therapist. He earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard College and his MD at Johns Hopkins. He completed his psychiatry residency at Yale and, did family therapy training at The Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, and graduated from The Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. Professor Nielsen is Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine; and serves on the faculty of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, where he is teaches couple therapy; and on the faculty of The Family Institute at Northwestern University. For many years, he coordinated a for-credit course he developed for Northwestern undergraduates, Marriage 101: Building Loving and Lasting Relationships. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and the author of over 40 papers in the fields of psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and couple therapy. He lives in Winnetka, IL, with his wife, Sheila, and is the proud father of three grown daughters.
