Asma Wahab is a Southern California native, passional about education and communication. She is an author and owns Civilian Publishing, a publishing house dedicated to modern, educational Arabic books for kids. The idea started after Asma had her first child. She wanted to purchase fun, educational language books for her toddler. She found a plethora of English alphabet books with different styles of illustration and themes. But when she looked for Arabic alphabet books, they lacked illustration, transliteration, and grammar. This led Asma to create her own publishing house, hire Nadia Afghani (an incredible illustrator) and launch her first Kickstarter for her first book: Alif Baa Taa: Learning My Arabic Alphabet. The Kickstarter became fully funded in less than a month and was chosen as a "Project We Love" by Kickstarter. She has since launched her second book, Al-Alwan, Al-Ashkaal, Al-Arqam: Learning My Arabic Colors, Shapes, and Number, and has just released her third Kalimaatee Al-Oola: Learning My First Arabic Words.
