Assumpta Serna is one of Spain's most internationally renowned actresses and a prolific author. Her literary works include: The Job of a Film Actor (Cátedra, 1999), Monologues in O.V. (La Avispa, 2000). She also co-wrote Practice what you preach (San Pablo, 2020) with Scott Cleverdon and Juan Carlos Sánchez, and penned the play Minerva (Eride, 2022), which was performed at the Roman Theater in Mérida. In 2024-2025, several of her books will be published by Familia de Cine. As an actress, Assumpta has showcased her talent in six languages across 120 films, including 27 leading roles, and in 43 TV productions in 20 countries. Her performances have earned her 30 international acting awards. She has worked with esteemed directors such as Pedro Almodóvar (Matador), Carlos Saura, Terry Gilliam, Michael Mann. Her work (Aquí no hay quien viva, Falcon Crest, Sharpe, Borgia) has been broadcast on international networks. Her recent films include Network of Freedom (Contracorriente Prod.) and the comedy I’ve Killed My Husband. She served as President of ARTIS and AISGE, organizations that collect property rights for actors, from 2000 to 2002. Currently, she is the President of the International Film Foundation First Team and ABPAU (Association of Audiovisual Good Practices).Together with Scott Cleverdon, Assumpta founded the Acting Film School Assumpta Serna, where they have taught screen acting to over 6,145 actors over the past 24 years. In 2020, she created Familia de Cine, a film community with members in 18 countries. She had volunteered in various organizations and committees, including the Executive actor’s branch at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), where she has been a member since 1999. She represented Spain at the European Film Academy (EFA) from 2002 to 2008, successfully bringing the EFA awards to Spain and securing a budget of 1.5 million euros from three different political parties. She is a member of the Spanish Film Academy and an honorary member of the Catalan Film Academy. Assumpta has served on juries at 20 film festivals, including Venice, Karlovy Vary, Montreal, Chicago, Texas, Mar del Plata, Guadalajara (Mexico), and San Sebastián.
