Benjamin F Crabtree

Benjamin F. Crabtree is Distinguished Professor at the Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He writes extensively about primary medical care in the United States and has been an author on over 250 journal articles and 25 book chapters. He is senior editor on three research related books and co-author of the 2022 SAGE Publication textbook, Doing Qualitative Research (3rd edition). He volunteered twice with the United States Peace Corps, working first in the Ethiopian Smallpox Eradication Program and then in the Korean National Tuberculosis Program. After working as an English teacher in Hiroshima, Japan, Ben received a Master of Arts degree in applied anthropology from the University of South Florida and a Doctorate in medical anthropology from the University of Connecticut. He completed his PhD dissertation research in the Republic of Korea studying rural birthing practices shortly after modern birthing facilities became available. While not collaborating on research projects, Ben travels extensively in Japan with his wife and plans to write a travel guide on his quest for stamps from all 100 Japanese “hyakumeijo” (100 famous castles) based on more than 20 trips to Japan.
