Bernie Harberts has sailed alone around the world, traveled both ways across America by mule and pedaled a ten-dollar bike around Tasmania. He is the author of "Too Proud to Ride a Cow," "Woody and Maggie Walk Across America," and "19 Million Mule Steps." His award-winning "Lost Sea Expedition" documentary, about his mule wagon voyage across America, premiered on Rocky Mountain PBS and can be streamed on Amazon. He is a Long Rider and a member of the Long Riders' Guild, the organization that represents men and women who have ridden more than 1,000 continuous miles on a single equestrian journey. Harberts lives in a cabin in western North Carolina with his wife, Julia. They heat with wood, drink gravity water and sleep with their windows open year-round. He is working on his next book, "Two Mules to Triumph," about riding his mules Brick and Cracker from North to Idaho. Harberts has blogged for over 20 years at his travel site RiverEarth.com.
