Welcome to Big Brain Books! We are Chris and Marie, a husband and wife duo with a shared passion for education, creativity, and most importantly, our family. Our journey began when we decided to create engaging word search puzzles for our two energetic and inquisitive children, Henry (8) and Portia (5). We believe that kids learn best when they’re having fun, and our homemade books are an expression of that belief. Henry’s love for puzzles and Portia’s passion for coloring sparked the idea for Big Brain Books…When we couldn’t find the types of activity books that we liked – we started publishing them. It started as printouts of homemade sheets from our computer…and over time, we’ve taken what works (according to our expert testers) and turned them into books. We saw our kids thriving in a learning environment that was interactive, fun, and that resonated with their natural interests. This led us to design our unique word search puzzles that not only pique children’s curiosity but also encourage them to learn and explore at their own pace. Our puzzles incorporate Montessori sight words – an education method we hold dear for its emphasis on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. We’ve found these words to be incredibly beneficial in helping our kids develop their reading and comprehension skills. By including these sight words in our puzzles, we hope to enhance your children’s vocabulary, cognitive abilities, and word recognition skills, all while they’re engrossed in a delightful game. But our books aren’t just about word searches. We’ve taken Portia’s enthusiasm for coloring and incorporated a unique feature for our younger learners. Each puzzle page comes with fun, playful images that the kids can fill in with their favorite colors. This way, they get to enjoy a coloring session right after cracking the puzzle. It’s a fantastic way for them to celebrate their achievements and extend their playtime while nurturing their creativity and fine motor skills. Lastly, we don’t just create these puzzles—we test them too! Our biggest critics, Henry and Portia, give each puzzle a rigorous play-test. Only when they give us their seal of approval, accompanied by huge grins and a high demand for “one more puzzle,” do we consider the puzzle ready for your child. We’ve modeled Big Brain Books after the Montessori method…we’re all about learning through play. We understand that every child is unique, and we strive to create puzzles that cater to a wide range of interests and learning levels.
