Bill Fleck is a writer, a freelance musician, and a retired educator. His GIMME A SHOW: 50 YEARS ON THE ROCK & ROLLERCOASTER (an unauthorized biography of trombonist James Pankow of Chicago) has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. His NOT THE DUDE: JEFF BRIDGES AND THE SEARCH FOR SELF (the first of a proposed two-volume unauthorized biography of the Oscar-winning actor) is making inroads with those in the know. His CHANEY'S BABY: LON JR., THE WOLF MAN, 1948, AND THE END OF A DREAM--a biographical piece about the horror icon's suicide attempt in 1948--was nominated for a RONDO HATTON CLASSIC HORROR Award (Best Nonfiction Book) in 2022. Bill has since been nominated twice for a Rondo in the Best Website category for his blog, BILL FLECK’S CLASSIC HORROR BEHIND THE SCENES. Bill's latest book is CHANEY'S AUDITION, a bookend to CHANEY'S BABY that deals with a more positive time in Lon Chaney, Jr.'s life...a time when he was up for a long-term contract with Universal Studios that promised a variety of roles. Currently, Bill is at work drafting NOT THE DUDE: JEFF BRIDGES AND THE SEARCH FOR SELF, PART TWO (1985 - PRESENT) which will cover (among other things) the making of the iconic classic THE BIG LEBOWSKI (1998). He and his wife—food artist Kim Simons—have also completed a YA novel for Paige Press.
