Dr. Robert O. “Bob” Crossman has lived in Faulkner County since 1988, when he and his wife established Crossman Printing near downtown Conway’s Toad Suck Square. He is a member of The Butterfield National Historic Trail Association, Faulkner County Historical Society, Arkansas Historical Association, Southern Trails Chapter of the Oregon-California Trails Association, Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, and Old Colony History Museum. After graduating from Russellville High School, Dr. Crossman received a B.A. from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and received graduate and post-graduate degrees from SMU in Dallas, Texas. ––––––––––––––––– He is the author of six books on the Butterfield: • Butterfield’s Overland Mail Co. Stagecoach Trail Across Arkansas • Butterfield’s Overland Mail Co. Use of STEAMBOATS Across Arkansas • Butterfield’s Overland Mail Co. as REPORTED in the Newspapers of Arkansas • Postal History of John Butterfield’s Overland Mail Co. on the Southern & Central Routes including Butterfield’s Pony Express • Butterfield National Historic Trail PASSENGER DIARIES & STORIES Across Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri; and • The Butterfield National Historic Trail Across Faulkner County, Arkansas Dr. Crossman also authored several Butterfield articles including: • “The Butterfield Overland Mail Company: Faulkner County Connection,” Faulkner County Facts & Fiddlings, Fall 2021, p. 24-32. • “Fort Smith’s Connection to the Butterfield’s Overland Mail Co.: Stations Between Memphis and Fort Smith,” Fort Smith Historical Society Journal, Fall 2021, p. 25-43. • “I Lived on The Butterfield Mail Route for Decades and Didn’t Know It,” The American Philatelist, Jan. 2023, p. 17-31. • “Faulkner County and Butterfield’s Overland Mail Company Stagecoach Route,” Faulkner County Facts & Fiddlings, Spring 2024.
