Dr. Brian Klausner has spent his career advocating for patients and driving quality improvement, with a specific interest in high-risk populations. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Brian Klausner graduated from the University of Notre Dame and then Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he attended as a National Health Service Corp Scholar. Following the completion of his internal medicine training at the University of Chicago, he joined the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, eventually becoming the medical director of its largest outpatient clinic. After moving to Raleigh in 2011, Dr. Klausner continued in his population-health leadership roles at WakeMed Hospital, eventually serving as the chief medical officer of WakeMed Key Community Care Accountable Care Organization. Simultaneously during that time, Dr. Klausner developed and led North Carolina’s first “hotspotter” model designed to identify and better manage Wake County’s highest-risk, highest-cost uninsured patients. In the context of his experience with evolving trauma-informed models, Dr. Klausner has also served as a partner physician for HostageUS since 2020. In October 2022, Dr. Klausner helped to establish WakeMed’s Center for Community Health, Innovation, and Equity, where clinical teams manage high-risk patients while also developing innovative community collaborations designed to address local health inequities. Dr. Klausner and his clinical models have won numerous awards throughout his career and have been featured in numerous medical and news outlets including Politico, USA Today, NPR, and Modern Healthcare, as have various editorials he has written over the years.
