Buck Tilton, born a swamp rat in South Carolina in 1948, crawled out the mud and humidity to co-found the Wilderness Medicine Institute and eventually accept a full-time professorship in the English Department at Central Wyoming College (where he still teaches). His teaching has earned him two Outstanding Faculty awards, the Paul Petzoldt Excellence in Wilderness Education trophy, and the Warren Bowman Award for his contributions to wilderness medicine. With more than three dozen books in print, he continues to love writing, his students, the wild outdoors, and his family--but not necessarily in that order.
