C. Barry CARTER holds a B.A., M.A. and Sc.D. from Cambridge University, an M.Sc. from Imperial College, London, and a D. Phil. From Oxford University. He has taught at Cornell (12 yrs), at Minnesota (16 yrs) and UConn (9.5 yrs). He is a CINT Distinguished Affiliate Scientist at Sandia and has held visiting positions at Los Alamos, Chalmers, NIMS, Bristol, Stuttgart, Hannover and Jülich. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a senior A von Humboldt Award, the MSA Distinguished Scientist Award, the ACerS Outstanding Educator Award and a JSPS Fellowship. He is a Fellow of AAAS, ACerS, MRS, MSA and RMS. He was the 1997 President of MSA, and the 2011-14 President of IFSM. He is the co-author of two Springer textbooks, and lead Editor of another, and is the Editor-in-Chief of JMSc.
