Award-winning poet, C. Steven Blue, has been nominated to be Poet Laureate of Oregon, for his continuing work and contributions in the Oregon literary and arts community. Not a small feat for a street poet originally from L.A. CA, with no college degree. His most recent book, The Last Hippy Poet of the Woodstock Generation, is already the recipient of 4 national literary awards, including Best Book of Urban Poetry 2023—American Book Fest Awards. As if that were not enough, it has been accepted as an official entry for the Pulitzer Prize in Literature 2024. Steven won his first poetry award at age 12. He is a natural poet—his poems have poured out of him since he was a boy. His unique style of poetry is like no other poet out there. He finds the words to express so many of life's ordinary feelings, in unique patterns and rhythms that are definitely his own brand. His work is easy to read, so the average person can relate to what he is saying. Young poets he works with have referred to him as a modern day Robert Frost, or Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. C. Steven Blue wears many hats: Poet, author, artist, musician, independent publisher, videographer, and producer/host of literary & arts events. He has published twelve books: nine of his own work, two anthologies of Northwest poets, and the work of remarkable spontaneous poet, karen a. dalyea. He volunteered his publishing for the Oregon Poetry Association's annual K-12 student writing contest, publishing an anthology of the contest winning students’ work. For decades, Steven has produced and hosted literary and arts events in both California and Oregon, giving countless opportunities to other creators along the way. His most recent literary series prior to the pandemic was BURNIN' DOWN THE BARNES, a monthly literary reading series and poetry open mic at the Eugene, Oregon, Barnes & Noble Bookstore, which ran for four years, and was one of the most popular reading series in the Pacific Northwest. As a well-known West Coast performance poet, Steven stands outside the normal conventions of modern poetry. He is a lyrical/performance poet, reading and performing his poetry from a unique rhythmic perspective: at the crossroads of poetry and music. When reading/performing his work, you will find him accompanying himself with original music and hand drums. As an author, Steven writes from his own life experiences of loss, betrayal, addiction, recovery, joy, and love. From his years of struggling to recover from abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental breakdown, Steven's perspective is a refreshing and inspiring journey, one of survival and overcoming adversity, discovering a renewed faith and hope in life, and a spiritual awakening that has given him the ability to live in the here and now. Steven lives in Eugene, Oregon with his wife Paulette, where he is retired from a 27 year career in live theatre and television production in Hollywood. He has read and performed from coast to coast, and he has been interviewed on television, radio, and in literary magazines. His work appears in countless literary journals and anthologies, both in print and online. More information about C. Steven Blue can be found at wordsongs dot com
