Dr. Carol Rittner, RSM, a member of the MidAtlantic (USA) Community of the Sisters of Mercy, is Distinguished Professor of Holocaust & Genocide Studies and the Dr. Marsha Raticoff Grossman Professor of Holocaust Studies at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. She is the author or editor of more than 20 books and numerous essays in various scholarly and educational journals about the Holocaust and other genocides of the 20th and 21st centuries. Dr. Rittner has lectured in the USA and around the world – Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Cambodia, and Israel - to name a few places. She is the Executive Producer of "The Courage to Care," an Academy Award-nominated (1986) short documentary film about non-Jews who rescued Jews during the Holocaust, and "Triumph of Memory" (1987), a short documentary film about non-Jews who survived Nazi concentration camps during WW II and the Holocaust. She also is the Executive Producer of a documentary film about Catholic nuns in America. It is entitled Sisters. In June 2023, Dr. Rittner worked with WVIA-TV, the PBS station in Northeastern, PA, to produce a television program entitled "Holocaust Warnings: American Antisemitism and Extremism." The program won a Regional Emmy Award. Rittner's most recent books include, "Stress Test: The Israel-Hamas War and Christian-Jewish Relations" (2025), "Holocaust Education Today: Confronting Extremism, Hate, and Mass Atrocity Crimes" (2023), "The Memory of Goodness: Eva Fleischner and Her Contributions to Holocaust Studies" (2022), "Advancing Holocaust Studies" (2021), "The Holocaust and the Christian World" (2nd ed., 2019), and "Rape as a Weapon of War and Genocide" (2012). Earlier, she published "Different Voices: Women and the Holocaust" (1993), and "The Courage to Care: Rescuers of Jews During the ZHolocaust" (1986). Rittner’s current research interests include the Jewish Community that lived in Derry, Northern Ireland, Women during the Holocaust and other genocides, Rape as a weapon of war and genocide, and Rescue during the Holocaust. Dr. Rittner has received numerous awards and honors, including four Honoary Degrees. She is currently the Honorary President of WHISC - Women in the Holocaust International Study Center located in Israel.
