Born and raised in the heart of Southwest Virginia, Cassie Phillips graduated from Powell Valley High School and attended UVA-Wise on athletic and academic scholarships. After she treated her body like a banged up tin can, she found a new passion, reading. An avid reader, Cassie was often caught reading in class and eventually pursued writing because she never needed to use the Pythagorean Theorem for Rocket Science. Her interest for poetry and writing began early in high school where some of her works were celebrated and shared academically. Phillips spends her free time doing whatever her children want because she has guilty mom syndrome. A military spouse of many years, Phillips finally moved back to her roots to open a Book Boutique and work at a nursing home, where she argues sports and philosophy with her patients. When she has a moment of free time, she spends it reading, writing, coaching youth athletes, and coordinating pranks in her death planner. Cassie is globally known as the author of "The Let Them" Poem, which originated from "The Let Them" Writings. The Movement populated specifically after Phillips tattooed the words on her forearm leading to many others following suit.
