Chris McCully was born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1958. He published his first poem in 1975 and his first fly-fishing feature article in 1981. Chris has links with Carcanet Press, who have published a number of his collections of verse and/or translations, and with the Medlar Press, who have published several of Chris's angling titles. Chris has also written a memoir on alcoholism (Jessica Kingsley, 2005), an analysis of living in the north-east of the Netherlands (Outside, Two Ravens Press, 2011) and has written, co-written or edited several academic titles. Most recently, Chris has published Beowulf: A Translation and a Reading (Carcanet Classics, 2018), Four Places (travel essays, Muscaliet 2018), The English Funerals (prose poems, Muscaliet, 2021) and The River of All the Goodbyes (Medlar Press, 2023). The English language, (fly-)fishing and verse are abiding interests.
