Christian Casey is a postdoc at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he works on the Zodiac Glossary, a free online tool for the study of ancient zodiacal terms in multiple languages. He specializes in the study of Egyptian languages and scripts, with a particular interest in the development of new digital tools to improve our understanding of ancient Egyptian. He completed his PhD in Egyptology at Brown University in 2020. When not coding or doing research, Christian looks for new ways to share the wonderful subject of Egyptology with as many people as possible. He has contributed scripts to the popular YouTube channel Religion for Breakfast, and he has his own channel, ⲧⲁⲛⲥⲏⲃⲉ ⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲙⲛⲕⲏⲙⲉ, which features free Egyptian language courses. He also works as a language specialist for Nile Magazine, where he helps to share Egyptian texts in hieroglyphs and English translation with the public. He even sometimes writes historical fantasy stories set in the magical world of Kemi in an effort to make ancient Egypt more vivid for younger generations. Recently, he teamed up with his student, Michael Hoffen, and a colleague, Dr. Jen Thum, to create Be a Scribe! The book is a curated journey through daily life, designed to let the ancient Egyptians speak for themselves. It includes a new, accessible translation of an ancient text, coupled with hundreds of artifacts, tomb scenes, and natural landscapes to showcase the beauty of Egypt.
