Christopher González

Christopher González is a scholar and professor of English at Southern Methodist University, where he holds the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Endowed Chair in the Department of English. He specializes in U.S. Latinx literature and culture across narrative media forms and has published eight book-length works and numerous peer-reviewed articles. With broader expertise in 20th-century American literature, multiethnic literatures of the US, film, comics, and narrative theory, Christopher is the author, co-author, and editor of eight books, including Reel Latinxs: Representation in U.S. Film and TV, which won the 2020 International Latino Book Award, and Permissible Narratives: The Promise of Latino/a Literature, awarded Honorable Mention for the 2019 Perkins Prize for the most significant contribution to narrative studies. In 2024, he published his first memoir, Big Scary Brown Guy. Before coming to SMU in 2022, he served as the founding director of the Latinx Cultural Center at Utah State University from 2018-2022. His work, research, and teaching reflect his commitment to diversity and representation in literature and media. Christopher earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, where he was affiliated with the world-famous Project Narrative.
