Christopher Manes is an award-winning author and documentary filmmaker, working out of Austin, Texas. His articles have won a Maggie Award, a GM Foundation award, and he was nominated for a Los Angeles Times Book Award for Green Rage: Radical Environmentalism and the Unmaking of Civilization. His investigative cover story for California Lawyer Magazine on probate abuses was read into the Congressional Record during US Senate hearings on elder abuse. His articles explore topics ranging from Beowulf scholarship to environmental ethics to solo treks in the subarctic. They have appeared in numerous publications, including Los Angeles Magazine, Palm Springs Life, Environmental Ethics, Orion Nature Quarterly, Northern Lights, Houghton Mifflin's Encyclopedia of the Environment, English Language Notes, Human Ecology Review, and have been widely anthologized. He has produced several documentaries, shown at film festivals and excerpted on MTV and 60 Minutes. He also writes for stage, contributing to the controversial play, Displacement: Stories from Section 14, which was covered by major media, including the Los Angeles Times.
