Clara Silverstein was raised in Richmond, Virginia and is the author of two books that examine the struggle for racial justice in different eras: the memoir "White Girl: A Story of School Desegregation," and the Civil War-era novel "Secrets in a House Divided." Her most recent book, "Norumbega Park and the Totem Pole Ballroom," chronicles the history of an amusement park near Boston. As a food writer, she is the author of "The Boston Chef's Table" and "A White House Garden Cookbook," and co-author of "The New England Soup Factory Cookbook," Her writing has appeared in publications including Runner's World, American Heritage, Blackbird, and the Boston Globe. The former program director of the Chautauqua Writers' Center, she lives near Boston, Massachusetts.
