Published in 2024, my anthology "Shakespeare for Every Night of the Year"is a beautifully illustrated collection of quotations from the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare, specially chosen for 366 special days. Also this year, my ninth contribution to the series which began with "100 Books that Changed the World" - this time it was "100 Novels", and I've just completed "100 Diaries that Chronicled our World", which will be released in 2025. Also scheduled for publication in 2025 are two more books - "The History Trees" tells the stories of over fifty trees old and young which have witnessed at first hand the events of homan history, sometimes bearing the marks and scars to prove it. "Iconic Watches" is an affectionate survey of more than thirty classic wrist watches which have changed the ways and places in which we tell the time. I'm a non-fiction author based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I write everything from encyclopedia entries to CD liner notes and I love the variety of the work I do. I have written books on natural history, historical biography, the sciences and popular music, many of them translated into French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. When I'm not writing I am cycling, baking or playing guitar in my band Blackstar Falling. You can see a full list of books to which I have made significant contributions on my website. I'm currently working on a biography of a 250-year old library - how the books were gathered together, and what they say about the family who wrote many of them and passed them on from generation to generation.
