Born in the magnificent city of Chicago, Craig W Stevens went to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, for his undergraduate degree and went off Nepal for a 27-month tour of duty with the American Peace Corps. Upon returning to the States, Craig entered a graduate program in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Illinois in Chicago, received a M.S. degree then continued his studies at the Mayo Clinic and left with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. He began his academic science career at Oklahoma State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he remains to this day. His was promoted to Professor of Pharmacology in 2000. Besides his obsession and main research career investigating opioid receptors, he is a beloved teacher of Pharmacology to medical and graduate students, and a tolerable mentor to a number of graduate students in his lab. His avocation is moonlighting as an expert witness in legal cases involving drug issues and his latest monograph entitled "The Drug Expert" is a treatise on this adjunct career track.
