Cynthia Roses Thema is a seasoned writer and former principal ballerina. With a deep-rooted family history in the performing arts, she was destined for a life on the stage. At seventeen, she joined the Chicago Ballet, embarking on a remarkable career that spanned a decade. As a principal ballerina, she graced the stage in over sixty roles, delighting audiences with her artistry. Some time after exiting the stage, Cynthia and her husband, Graham, established The Studio: Centre for Excellence in Dance and Photography in Florida, where she nurtured young talent and fostered a vibrant dance community. Her passion for sharing her knowledge led her to the university classroom, where she taught and mentored aspiring dancers at Arizona State University. Cynthia has always been a storyteller. As a dance writer and critic, she shed light on the intricacies of the art form. Her four academically published books advocate for the voice of the dancer ("Rhetorical Moves"), detail her method for healthy moving ("SPINE Strategies") through activating tensegrity- the new progressive model for the moving body. She explains how she discovered and activated her own tensegrity in her book "Floating Bones" coming to address her moving body as a teacher of self-discovery. Now, as a professor emerita, Cynthia has turned her attention to mystery and memoir writing (her ballet/dance memoir "My Stories of Performing Me" to be out soon). Her Double O Tutu series combines her love of ballet in fun-filled action-packed plots. Each book in the series pays homage to a certain time in ballet history, connecting in some way to contemporary ballet issues, and features a captivating mystery that aims to keep readers engaged from start to finish. With her unique blend of expertise and creativity, Cynthia continues to inspire and entertain readers with her engaging storytelling and unwavering passion for the moving body as a source of self-knowledge.
