关于作者

Dan Shryock is a travel writer and career journalist who focuses on cycle tourism. Based in Oregon, his work has appeared in magazines and websites in California and the Pacific Northwest. Dan has explored back roads and hillsides across the western United States, British Columbia, England, Italy, and New Zealand in search of unique bicycle adventures. He’s also been known to savor a good espresso. “I like to turn left when everyone else turns right. I look down alleys and side roads in search of something different. And, when I find it I like to share it,” he says. After graduating from Indiana University’s School of Journalism, Dan served as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Indiana, California, and Oregon. While working for the Times-Advocate in Escondido, CA, he teamed with colleagues to become Pulitzer Prize finalists (Explanatory Journalism) in 1990. He later served as editor of the Gazette-Times in Corvallis, OR, and as both managing editor and digital media director of the News-Register in McMinnville, OR. He left the News-Register in 2015 and began his cycling/travel adventure. Here's What Others Say About "Cycling Across Oregon" “This is not your typical ride guide. Dan Shryock takes the reader on a journey discovering the true magic of Oregon – its history, its communities, and the diverse individuals spread throughout our geographic wonderland. Cycling Across Oregon highlights the crown jewels of cycling routes in the state - the Oregon Scenic Bikeways - but more importantly, makes you truly feel why they are so special, and creates an overwhelming desire to go live those experiences yourself.” Steve Schulz, executive director, Cycle Oregon ----- "A great bike ride is about more than just nice roads and pretty vistas, and Shryock has captured what makes cycling in Oregon so special. At once inspiring and informative, he has taken the guidebook genre to a new place with a mix of rich route details, notes on local lore, and interviews with the people he meets along the way. I've ridden some of these routes myself, yet this book gave me a deeper understanding of why these places matter and now I can't wait to explore even more of Oregon by bike!" Jonathan Maus, editor & publisher, BikePortland ----- "An absolutely wonderful read. Dan Shryock weaves together numerous genres, elements, and influences into an entertaining, moving, intriguing, and thought-provoking open love letter to cycling that simultaneously espouses his admiration for the people, places, history, and cultures of Oregon." Adam Sawyer, Oregon-based writer and guidebook author ----- “If this book doesn’t convince you that Oregon’s bikeways represent exploration heaven, nothing will!” Tracy Corral, editor, Cycle California!
