Born in Guadalajara, Mexico. Grew up in Sayula, Jalisco close to the Pacific Coast where he started to write poetry. Studied biochemical engineering but his love for literature and film inspired him to pursue an academic career in the humanities. Has published articles on poetry, comics, television, videogames and the politics and culture of Mexico and Nicaragua. His travels in Europe, Central and South America form part of his writing. His book "Versiones en Luna Agreste y Nitrato de Plata" was awarded the XXVIII Efraín Huerta National Poetry Prize in Tampico, Mexico. This book commemorates the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution (1910-2010). His other books of poetry include "Hasta Nuevo Aviso" (Mantis Editores, 2006), "Línea de Flotación" (Ínsula 19, UANL, 2017) and "Raya y Suerte" (Valparaíso Editores, 2023). He has taught at Washington University in St. Louis, Vassar and Middlebury Colleges and the universities of Kentucky, Virginia and Oregon. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of New Hampshire where he teaches Latin American and US Latino literature, film, and international studies.
