I have been involved in EMS for 32 years. Like many in my generation I watched the TV show EMERGENCY! and from that point on couldn't imagine doing anything else. I became an EMT at age 18 and a paramedic at 19--one of the youngest in New York State. I currently live and practice EMS in Southern Maine. I have been an active EMS educator for 30 years teaching everywhere from fire stations to regional training centers to colleges and universities. I taught for many years at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY and at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. I speak at conferences around the country--and sometimes the world. My passions in conference presentations as well as practice and education are patient assessment, critical thinking and decision making. These are vital skills for any level of EMS provider In addition to EMS, which I have done both paid and as a volunteer, I was a police officer in upstate New York. I believe this experience helps me to provide realistic, street-oriented books that help students both in class and in practice. I am very proud of the books you will see on my page. Each and every book has my personal email address and I remain available for students and educators to contact me with questions from the course or practice. My blog is also available on this page. I wish you great success and happiness in EMS.
