After turning his back on the worlds of management, finance and diplomacy, Daniel needed a new direction. He received his teaching certification (CELTA) in 2005 and had a ‘plan’ to teach English for two years before finding a ‘proper’ job. Fast forward nearly two decades, and he finds himself reflecting on his career, wondering how he arrived at his current circumstances. Along the way he has taught in eight countries, including Ukraine, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan and the Basque Country, and become a CELTA teacher trainer, DELTA tutor and IELTS examiner. In February 2022, he left Ukraine with his family. Uncertain about the possibility and timing of his return to Ukraine, he found himself at a crossroads and that’s when he decided it was time to write. His debut book, A Classroom in Kyiv, marks the beginning of his writing journey. With numerous ideas bouncing around in his head, he hopes to write a few more (unless this one flops so badly that he’s faced with no other choice but to return to teaching eight-year-olds). He currently lives in Vienna. In his free time, he drinks a lot of coffee (and occasionally stronger stuff), reads, pontificates, and wastes way too much time watching sport. He also enjoys hanging out with his daughter, especially when she’s not being a pain in the you-know-what.
