Dara grew up in New York listening to the sounds of her mom, Phyllis, and friends mixing Mah Jongg tiles. Eventually, she fell in love with the game. While taking a break from practicing law to raise their two daughters, she co-created a thriving Mah Jongg business with Donna Miller Kassman. They have an online retail business, ModernMahjong.com, as well as host Hybrid Tournaments for Charities, in-person events, and Modern Mahjong Zoom Talks with well-known authors, speakers, teachers, players, and collectors. Information about upcoming events can be found on ModernMahjong.com. Replays of their informative and entertaining talks can be viewed on YouTube.com/ModernMahjong. As admins of Facebook.com/groups/MahjongCommunity, a large interactive Facebook group, they share rule and strategy posts and moderate lively discussions about all things mahjong. Dara enjoys creating graphics about rules, strategy, and best practices in the game for their group which led to the creation of their Visual Companion Guide for American Mah Jongg, currently a best selling new release on Amazon. When Dara's mom offered to teach Canasta to her, her husband David, and her Dad, they jumped at the chance. After learning to play, Dara really loved finding out more about strategy. Through their Zoom Talks, Dara connected with Donna Miller-Small (another Donna.) They discussed the need for a comprehensive guide to learn to play and improve strategy for Canasta. They decided to write it, knowing they had the credentials and motivation to do it. Modern American Canasta: The Complete Guide has received wonderful reviews and is a best selling new release on Amazon. As Dara and Donna Kassman have done for Mah Jongg, Dara and Donna Miller-Small are creating an active Modern American Canasta Community. They will be the Canasta Hotline for players of all levels. Players can connect with them on Facebook.com/groups/ModernAmericanCanasta and subscribe to their YouTube channel, YouTube.com/@ModernAmericanCanasta.
