Dr. David Plourdé holds a Ph.D. in sciences with concentrations in human nutrition and exercise physiology from Union Institute and University. Prior to receiving his doctoral science credentials, Plourdé was a social worker with a background in food addiction recovery, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. As a follower of Jesus Christ, Dr. Plourdé’s original intention was to continue his studies in seminary after completing his undergraduate degree. However, that all changed after he experienced a spiritual awakening, which led him to a new calling and direction for his life in science. Dr. Plourdé has been studying human nutrition, chemistry, metabolic research, exercise physiology, muscle metabolism, body composition science, the psychology of eating behavior, and food addiction recovery in a laboratory setting for thirty-three years (over 85,000 clinical hours). Thousands of overweight men and women (from California to New York, Minnesota to South Florida) have successfully lost significant and life changing body fat weight through his scientific weight loss method. With the help of a team of field experts, Dr. Plourdé relentlessly pursued three primary objectives in his research: 1. To develop a noninvasive technique to monitor the enzyme Hormone-Sensitive Lipase (HSL), an enzyme responsible for regulating the weight of each individual fat cell. 2. To pioneer an interdisciplinary scientific method (which eventually became THE PLOURDE METHOD℠ to FULLY control the HSL enzyme, reducing fat cell weight and body fat levels in an entirely predictable and reproducible fashion. 3. To select and establish a statistical tool to predict when the brain perceives a threat from fat cells getting too small, resulting in a biological plateau in weight loss. This is similar to how a yellow light comes on in your car’s dashboard indicating you are critically low on fuel. These objectives were accomplished after implementing three human trials and answering to the Institutional Review Board of Union Institute and University. This requirement is a safeguard for the safe and ethical treatment of human subjects in research. He tracked 308 adult, overweight, human subjects, divided among three trials over many years—with seven-day-a-week doctor-patient interaction. The result of this extensive research, trials, and refinements is called THE PLOURDE METHOD℠. It has become the road map to successfully navigate your weight loss journey, drawn from decades of clinical experience by the nation’s leader in science-based weight loss.
