关于作者

I am a clinical psychologist and the President and CEO of Prevention Research Institute in Lexington, KY, where we develop and train curriculum for preventing and treating alcohol and drug use issues. I completed the initial Training for Trainers of Motivational Interviewing (MI) with Miller and Rollnick in 1993 and have been providing MI training ever since. As a founding member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), I have contributed to the MI community through training, writing, and serving on the MINT Steering Committee. I’ve co-authored several scholarly articles and book chapters, as well as “Building Motivational Interviewing Skills: A Practitioner Workbook” and "Motivational Interviewing from the Inside Out: A Self-Practice/Self-Reflection Workbook." For over 35 years, my work has focused on what initiates and sustains motivation and the process of change. My journey began with angry adolescents and has spanned prisons, VA and state hospitals, and outpatient settings. My research has covered addictive behaviors, HIV/AIDS risk reduction, IPV, brief interventions, and training methods. Clinically, I’ve worked with diverse populations, from those with addictive behaviors to sexual offenders and the chronically mentally ill. Recently, my focus has been on indicated prevention and treatment for high-risk alcohol and drug use, as well as implementation science and training evaluation.
