David Blackwell was born in 1961 and studied music at Edinburgh University. He now works as a freelance composer and arranger. With his wife Kathy, he has written and published over 60 books for young string players: Fiddle Time, Viola Time, Cello Time and several ensemble collections, all published by Oxford University Press. Kathy and David have twice won the UK’s Music Industries Association award for Best Educational Publication. They have presented workshops on string teaching across Europe and in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong, and in 2017 received an ESTA UK award in recognition of exceptional services to string teaching. David's educational piano music includes ABRSM's Piano Star series (5 volumes), Piano Mix, 3 books of piano arrangements (ABRSM, 2015), The Foundation Pianist (Faber Music, 2018), Get Set! Piano Christmas Crackers (Collins Music, 2018) and pieces in OUP's Piano Time series. He has published a number of arrangements with ABRSM, and his choral and organ music is published in the UK and America.
