David Dickson was born and schooled in Glasgow and received his tertiary education at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he also taught from 1985-1992. In 1993 he moved to the University of Melbourne where he is now Professor of Actuarial Studies. David qualified as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland in 1987.
