David Bothast is an accomplished educator, passionate community leader, devoted family man, and published author. With a diverse background spanning teaching, community engagement, and non-profit work, David has made a lasting impact in various spheres of his life. Currently serving as a 5th grade Science Teacher at Riverview Elementary School in Hamilton, Ohio, David brings over two decades of experience and an unwavering dedication to fostering growth and development. His engaging and interactive teaching style encourages curiosity and critical thinking, creating an enriching learning environment for his students. David's journey in education began in Evansville, Indiana, after 5 meritorious years active duty in the US Navy from 1996-2001. As a first-generation college graduate, he simultaneously earned an Associate of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education, then he went on to earn a Master of Science in Public Service Administration. These milestones, accomplished as a nontraditional, working student, coupled with his personal experiences, ignited his passion for providing equitable opportunities and supporting student success. Throughout his career, David has held various impactful positions, including Family Development Officer at Miami University, Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations at the University of Evansville, Director of the Family Center at Goodwill Industries, and Executive Director at the American Red Cross. These roles allowed him to engage with diverse communities, enhance educational opportunities, and leverage partnerships to make a positive difference. Beyond his professional achievements, David's commitment to education and philanthropy extends to his personal life. As a foster parent, he and his husband welcomed a biological group of three siblings, ages 6, 4, and 5 months. Their love and support have nurtured the growth of these children, who they fully adopted a year later to ensure they would never be separated and be given every opportunity to succeed in life. The impact of David's parenting is evident in the achievements of his children. His eldest son, now 20 years old, was an award winning athlete and leader and even earned a full merit-based scholarship for leadership at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He is currently spending the summer (2023) making a difference through volunteer service in Costa Rica. The middle daughter, at 17 years old, is an accomplished athlete-scholar, has embraced cultural exploration, and is considering colleges after a memorable father-daughter tour of Athens, Greece. The youngest, now 13, is a talented saxophonist, leader in student council, and excels academically in middle school. David's contributions have been recognized through numerous awards and accolades, including being selected and spotlighted as a "20 under 40" in Evansville, Indiana, by the Evansville Business Journal in 2011. This prestigious recognition acknowledged his community leadership and dedication to education and philanthropy. As a published author, David has written bilingual books in both English and Spanish. These books not only provide engaging stories but also incorporate character and values lessons. His innovative approach to teaching and learning through literature has garnered praise and proved valuable for educators and students alike. Combining his expertise in education, community engagement, leadership, and bilingual literature, David Bothast continues to inspire and empower students, colleagues, and the broader community.
