David Planchard is the founder of D&M Education LLC. Before starting D&M Education, he spent over 35 years in industry and academia holding various engineering, marketing, and teaching positions. He holds five U.S. patents. David has published and authored numerous papers and blogs on Machine Design, Product Design, Mechanics of Materials, Solid Modeling, SOLIDWORKS xDesign, SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform by Dassault Systèmes. David holds a BSME, MSM with the following professional certifications: CCAI, CCNP, CSWA-SD, CSWA-S, CSWA-AM, CSWP, CSWPA-DT, SOLIDWORKS Accredited Educator, SOLIDWORKS Associate - 3D CREATOR, ENOVIA Collaborative Industry Innovator Associate, 3DEXPERIENCE 3DSwymer, 3DEXPERIENCE Collaborative Industry Innovator, 3DEXPERIENCE Collaborative Designer and 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Professional. David is a SOLIDWORKS Solution Partner, 3DEXPERIENCE Edu Champion and an Affiliate Professor of Emeritus in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at WPI. In 2012, David’s senior Major Qualifying Project team (senior capstone) won first place in the Mechanical Engineering department at WPI. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, David’s senior Major Qualifying Project teams won the Provost award in the Mechanical Engineering department for design excellence. In 2018, David’s senior Major Qualifying Project team (Co-advisor) won the Provost award in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. Subject area: Electrical System Implementation of Formula SAE Racing Platform. In 2020, David was awarded Emeritus status at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. David’s ME design class achieved world recognition, featured in Compass published by Dassault Systèmes, in the technical article, “Open Innovation in a Pandemic.” In 2022, David’s senior Major Qualifying Project team won second place in the Provost award in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department (ECE) at WPI. His FSAE Electric team won the IEEE Excellence in Electric Vehicle Engineering Award and achieved 4th place at the Formula Hybrid + Electric competition at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. The competition is part of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Design Series and is regarded as the most complex and dynamic of the series. In 2023, David’s senior Major Qualifying Project team won second place in the Provost award in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department (ECE) at WPI. His FSAE Electric team won the IEEE Excellence in Electric Vehicle Engineering Award, the TestEquity Electric Design award, and achieved 3rd place at the Formula Hybrid + Electric competition at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. David has written over 50 books on SolidWorks, for the beginner to intermediate user in the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese.
