I am a retired native Houstonian, and over the last five years, I have enjoyed researching and writing the seven books I self-published. I became interested in writing while investigating my ancestry on Ancestry.com. I discovered relatives I knew nothing about and searched archived articles from Newspapers.com, finding detailed information about many of them. I found a cousin, Oscar Rountree, a former Texas Ranger who was murdered in a San Antonio bar in 1910. His killer was a wealthy lawyer, a county judge, and a Texas House of Representatives member. That incident piqued my interest in writing a book and led to my first published effort, D.B. Chapin. As it turned out, Chapin was a far more interesting character than my murdered relative and was deeply involved in the history of South Texas. Like many students, I was not fond of history in school and received poor grades in the subject, but the passing years have led me to a keen interest in learning about the people and events that have shaped our world. That led to my historical fiction book, Bad Versus Evil, and later to Naughty Victorians, a non-fiction work. My two books in the fiction genre are The Martian's Black Box and Psycho in Blue. Joseph Wesley Newman is a biography about an unusual man who thought he had created a working perpetual motion machine that could furnish the world's energy needs, but the Patent Office disagreed. My most recent book is a collection of strange short stories. I titled the book, Really! I Can't Make This S**t Up. My other interests are classical music and bowling, perhaps an odd combination.
