David Vernon writes about literature and classical music, including on Shakespeare, Nabokov, Wagner, Mahler, Beethoven and, most recently, Sibelius. His next book, Exquisite Nothingness: The Novels of Yukio Mishima, will mark the Japanese writer's centenary in 2025, while a study of Clarice Lispector's novels, stories and crônicas is due in 2027. He studied at Oxford University, before teaching English language and literature in China and Japan. After returning to Europe, he completed his doctorate on Shakespeare's tragicomedies at Freie Universität Berlin and taught for many years in London. He lives in the Highlands of Scotland.
