David Whitcomb

Prof. David C. Whitcomb MD PhD is a pioneer in the use of mathematics, genetic, epidemiology and modeling in developing the precision medicine paradigm for pancreatic diseases. He served as Chief, Div. Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Univ. Pittsburgh from1999 to 2016, building a top-tier Gastroenterology program. As a physician-scientists he published over 400 papers, reviews and book chapters with > 35,000 citations, making him one of the top cited experts in his field. Prof Whitcomb completed doctorates in physiology (PhD, 1983) and medicine (MD, 1985) at The Ohio State University with postdoctoral training at Duke University. He joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC in 1991. He is Professor of Medicine (with tenure), Prof. Cell Biology & Molecular Physiology and Prof. of Human Genetics. His is Adjunct Prof. of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. He has been married for over 40 years and has 4 grown children.
