Debbie Howard was born and educated in Manchester, England. She grew up in a household that was overflowing with Arts and Crafts. Her father was a tailor who taught her to make clothes, embroider, knit and sew from a very early age. Her mother was a wonderful cook and baker who involved Debbie in creating amazing and unusual food. This followed on with her own children who also learned to sew and particularly to cook. Debbie gave her children the freedom to create with food and whilst not enjoying all of it (!) most of it was wonderful and imaginative. Debbie spent many years as a Walt Disney Licensee and appeared on QVC the Shopping Channel for 13 years presenting first Disney products and then Popcorn the Bear products, so she has a wealth of experience of appearing on live television. Debbie has had a lifelong love of teddy bears and her house is home to many such characters. From this love of bears came her own style of bear. A bear she could relate to. A bear that was soft, squidgy and understanding. A bear that she could cuddle in times of stress and from that moment, Popcorn the Bear was born! Now with nine characters, including Popcorn’s little pink sister Brie, their antics and ability to teach children to ‘think outside the box’ are a perfect combination. Debbie has had three craft books published. Having now written and published several Popcorn the Bear books Debbie is using her creativity to put a Craft Page in every 32 page book. Children love creating and Popcorn will show them how! She is currently working on developing an animated children’s series featuring Popcorn where he uses his imagination to help solve problems and to show others how they too can solve problems.
