Debby Kratovil Herndon, Virginia (DC Suburbs) Debby says she’s been sewing since the dinosaurs roamed the earth and quilting since 1985 when she began to see quilts in newsstand magazines. She thought: “I can do that. I know how to sew.” Soon she was designing and making quilts for Quilt Magazine and was an editor with them for 14 years. She has worked with several fabric companies as a project designer for 20 years. She’s had 24 magazine covers and close to 1,000 quilts published in the past 30 years. She’s added 3 quilt books and 18 quilting Block a Day calendars. She says: “I’m only as good as the next quilt!” She’s been a boots-on-the-ground quilt teacher for 20 years and finds that to be her favorite part of the industry.
