Debra Young Hatch, a journalist by education and profession, has spent 15 years writing stories about children, their families and their health struggles for Driscoll Children's Hospital in South Texas. Through For Kids' Sake Publishing, she has found a way to use that experience, those writing skills and a deep caring for kids to share their stories and simultaneously provide financial benefits for children. Debra lives in Corpus Christi, Texas with her husband and her three assistants, Spring, Lizzie and Teensie. "The concept of For Kids' Sake Publishing," explains Hatch, "is that each book published is dedicated to a child who is living with a long-term health struggle and part of the proceeds from the sale of each book go to a hospital or an organization which helps other children with similar ongoing health issues. In this case, Giraffes in My Closet, is dedicated to Heath Naumann, a young boy who has had multiple heart surgeries in his young life - the first of which when he was 9 days old - and he survived and is doing quite well. "For Kids' Sake has been a dream that's been a long-time coming and the giraffes," Hatch smiles, "they brought that dream to life. And for all of us at For Kids' Sake, this is just the beginning."
