Derek Long

Derek Long, born and raised in the vibrant Southwest Atlanta community known as “The SWATS,” is a proud alumnus of Benjamin E. Mays High School. After high school, he pursued higher education at Claflin University in South Carolina, where he earned a degree in Sports Management. With deep roots in Atlanta and a passion for storytelling, Derek brings his life experiences and love for inspiring others into his work. “Not Your Typical Children’s Book” reflects his commitment to encouraging courage, bravery, and the celebration of individuality in children everywhere
