Derrick R. Brooms, PhD, is an award-winning educator and scholar; he is the Executive Director of the Black Men's Research Institute and Professor of Africana Studies & Sociology at Morehouse College, serves as a Senior Research Associate with the California State University Young Males of Color Consortium, and serves as a youth worker as well. Brooms also is a Second Wave Scholar in the Scholars Network on Black Masculinity. Through research, teaching, service, and community/collaborative work, Brooms is committed to educational equity, inclusion, and racial justice. Brooms’ research primarily centers on Black boys' and men's lived experiences as well as their pathways to and through college; his work also focuses on boys and men of color and their aspirations, engagement, identity development, and relationships across the educational continuum.
