Di Tran: From Mud Huts to the Pinnacle of the American Dream Di Tran’s extraordinary journey began in a third-world country, within the simple confines of a mud hut in rural Vietnam. Observing his father wear the same pair of pants day after day, Tran’s early life was steeped in modesty yet rich with perseverance. This humble beginning laid the foundation for his relentless ambition and indomitable spirit. In 1995, Tran and his family arrived in the U.S., entering a world vastly different from their own, without a command of the English language and with scant resources. Instead of seeing barriers, Tran perceived boundless opportunities. His steadfast work ethic and a commitment to continuous learning through reading, writing, and engaging communication quickly became the cornerstones of his success. Tran's educational pursuits were rigorous and fruitful. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Louisville. He later pursued a PhD in IT Management at Sullivan University, achieving ABD (All But Dissertation) status. These accomplishments paved the way for his future endeavors in technology and business. In 2016, driven by a passion for empowerment, Tran founded the Louisville Beauty Academy, which has since enabled over 1000 individuals to secure employment without any government assistance. This venture, along with the establishment of the Louisville Institute of Technology—offering robust software development programs—highlights Tran’s commitment to enhancing workforce development. Early in his career, Tran began mentoring licensed nail technicians as apprentices, an initiative that led over 20 individuals to start their own businesses. Despite the challenge of language, Tran has become a prolific writer, adept at sharing his insights through the aid of both human and digital editors, proving that knowledge indeed transcends linguistic barriers. His literary contributions are more than words; they are profound lessons in determination, resilience, and philanthropy, encouraging readers to dedicate themselves fully to their endeavors. His recent advocacy culminated in the passage of Senate Bill 14, aimed at increasing representation and fairness within the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology, which significantly impacted Kentucky’s economy. Further extending his influence, Tran ventured into politics, running for Kentucky State Senate and Metro Council to amplify the voices of immigrants, particularly those from Asian communities like his own. He also co-chairs various Diversity and Inclusion boards and committees, including the Louisville Independent Business Alliance and the Rotary Club of Louisville. Recently, Tran introduced Di Tran Bourbon - BELIEF, through his bourbon company, marking yet another milestone in his entrepreneurial journey. Today, Di Tran is a significant community figure in Louisville, where he resides with his wife Vy and their three sons. His life, deeply rooted in his faith and gratitude to the United States—his cherished second home—reflects his belief that all blessings are God-given. Tran’s work with the New American Business Association Inc. and collaborations with entities like Harbor House of Louisville underscore his ongoing commitment to community service and making a meaningful impact.
